The support group for Last.fm's free Spotify app, available here.

With the new Spotify desktop software 1.0.1. being rolled out now, the Last.fm for Spotify app will no longer work in this version. See this pinned thread for more information and possible workarounds.

This is the official support group for Last.fm's Spotify app which you can either directly install for free from here or search in the Spotify desktop client with their App Finder. See also the Last.fm developer blog and the Spotify news blog as well as the video below describing this app. For general questions about Spotify you can also check their community forums which are open for all users.

Some preliminary remarks:
You do not need this app for scrobbling from Spotify, as the Spotify desktop client has a native scrobbler (check "Edit" -> "Preferences") which also caches the scrobbles in case the Last.fm submissions server is not available.

So you do not need the Last.fm scrobbler either if you want to scrobble from Spotify, as the two clients are not directly connected and work independently from each other. But it can show you the wiki infos of the playing track like this app in the "Now Playing" tab when using both clients at the same time. The permanent info "Enable scrobbling by getting the Last.fm for Spotify app" on top of the new Last.fm scrobbler GUI includes an internal Spotify link. This is a shortcut to the login screen of the app where you can fill in your Last.fm details which automatically copies them to the Preferences of the Spotify desktop software as well, but it does not mean that the app is doing the scrobbling now.

The Spotify apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone as well as the web player for your browser can also scrobble to Last.fm, but do not feature a cache, so you lose your scrobbles if the connection to the Last.fm server is not available. Furthermore they cannot use this or other external apps.

That's interesting, so it may be necessary to do that once with IE which may set an internal general Windows internet option which all other Windows browsers use then. The newer Spotify desktop clients do not have an option anymore for opening open.spotify.com links in the client or the web player, only their current web player still has one.

I have the same problem as Negative47 and can't find anything on Firefox that lets me edit the Spotify settings. I try it with the desktop app open, even with a song playing and every time it goes straight to the web player even though my Spotify settings tell it not to. No matter what I try (including reinstalling Spotify) it just doesn't work as I really hate the web player so effectively this service is lost to me if there's no fix.

You should already have the desktop client loaded in the background and check if your browser knows what to do with open.spotify.com links, e.g. in Firefox it would be mentioned on this settings page: about:preferences#applications

See the pinned thread about the future of Last.fm for Spotify which has ended with their new desktop version 1.0.x. Scrobbling is still possible with it though, check its Preferences.

I cannot find the Last.fm app on Spotify desktop anymore. I just registered here after I deleted my old account and when they asked how I wanted to scrobble, I clicked Spotify but Spotify app only seemed to find a page that doesn't exist.

That feature in the Last.fm scrobbler was realised through their now deprecated API, see this thread for more info and a workaround.

Ok, the new Spotify update is screwing up my scrobbling. Sometimes the songs show up in the Scrobbles section on last.fm, but nothing EVER shows up in the Now Playing part. I deleted Spotify and reinstalled it. The old version of Spotify works fine with last.fm, but when I implemented the update again, it started showing nothing in the Now Playing section and again, the scrobbling is erratic. Is this a Spotify thing or a last.fm thing and how does it get fixed??

If you are asking about scrobbling with the Spotify iOS app, then the answer is yes, but it cannot cache scrobbles in offline mode, so you have to be online all the time to scrobble your Spotify tracks to Last.fm.

Does it scrobble? Don't know, but interesting nevertheless, as Spotify is not present on Xbox One yet: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/01/28/playstation-meet-spotify/

No, Spotify tags for artists, albums and tracks are not editable anywhere directly, you can only tell them about wrong names in their support forums. You could also suggest corrections on each Last.fm track page, but this would be a huge task.

Can I change the music name (ID3)? I hate when I scrobble any song and there's "[2002 Remix blablabla]"

See the pinned Known Issues thread with a workaround. Using the direct export of all your loved tracks to a TSV file and converting it with Ivy usually is the better way anyhow.
