The support group for Last.fm's free Spotify app, available here.

This is the official support group for Last.fm's Spotify app which you can either directly install for free from here or search in the Spotify desktop client with their App Finder. For general questions about Spotify you can also check their community forums which are open for all users.

Some preliminary remarks:
You do not need this app for scrobbling from Spotify, as the Spotify desktop client has a native scrobbler (check "Edit" -> "Preferences") which also caches the scrobbles in case the submissions server is not available.

So you do not need the Last.fm scrobbler either if you want to scrobble from Spotify, as the two clients are not directly connected and work independently from each other. But it can show you the wiki infos of the playing track like this app in the "Now Playing" tab when using both clients at the same time. The permanent info "Enable scrobbling by getting the Last.fm for Spotify app" on top of the new Last.fm scrobbler GUI includes an internal Spotify link. This is a shortcut to the login screen of the app where you can fill in your Last.fm details which automatically copies them to the Preferences of the Spotify desktop software as well, but it does not mean that the app is doing the scrobbling now.

The Spotify apps for iOS and Android mobile phones as well as the web player for your browser can also scrobble to Last.fm, but do not feature a cache, so you lose your scrobbles if the connection to the Last.fm server is not available. Furthermore they cannot use this or other external apps.

By the way, if you have any old listening data collected in your media player (Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes or foobar), you can import that when creating a new account on Last.fm. But this does not work for Spotify, as they don't create a local database on your computer which the Last.fm scrobbler software could read while being installed.

No, importing old data from Spotify is not possible, but you can at least look at your recent listening history in their desktop software under Queue -> History in the left-hand navigation bar. But it does not go back till the beginning and does not show dates either. @edubbwitthevdub: For learning without listening you could also access the Last.fm artist wikis directly in your browser. Searching is possible either with the input field on top on every page or here: http://www.last.fm/search?q=&from=ac

Can you import previous music data from spotify to last.fm? So you can see what you've been listening to the most during all the time you've been using spotify? I've been trying to find a way to do that for a while now, but maybe you can just see what you've been listening to since you connected it to last.fm? Too bad in that case. :(

The app could be more robust. I wish you could search artists so you could learn without having to listen.

Scrobbling from Spotify to your Last.fm account is possible with their desktop software (internal scrobbler), their web player (internal scrobbler or external browser add-on) or their mobile apps (internal scrobbler, no caching of offline scrobbles). It does not matter if you have created your Spotify account with a Facebook login or email address and password, you only have to filll in your Last.fm login details in each Spotify app to enable scrobbling. If you want to send your listened tracks from Spotify to Facebook, you can enable it in the Spotify apps as well.

Do you have to download Spotify or scrobbling is also available for Facebook-connected Spotify acounts?

An awesome feature for the spotify scrobbler would be to automatically mark as "loved" (in lastfm) the tracks you mark as "favorite" from your spotify radio stations.

My spotify last.fm shows that I'm logged in, and shows the information of the current song being played, but nothing has been scrobbled to my last.fm profile since June 7! I logged out of last.fm in Spotify and logged back in to make sure I'm logged in, but nothing changed! Any ideas on what's wrong?

I haven't been able to scrobble from spotify for iPhone 4 for like 8 hours now, I have tried retyping lastfm account and password, I even tried deleting and reinstalling the spotify app but still doesn't work (reentering lastfm account details). I tried also from an iPad and from desktop app, but nothing; I just want to know if this is an identified momentary bug, or whether definitely it has to do with my settings or equipment.

The Last.fm for Spotify app does not scrobble, see the preliminary remarks of this group description. Scrobbling is only realised through the native scrobbler in the Spotify desktop software, so if you have your Last.fm login detalls correctly filled in the Preferences, it will scrobble (see the sticky thread with screenshots). Maybe there are other external problems like proxy settings, firewalls, antivirus software with your computer and/or network settings if you use it at work.

The Lastfm Spotify app has to be logged in again quite often after restarting Spotify or my computer. Of course this prevents the app from scrobbling my plays until I happen to notice this. For this reason, I decided to switch back to the desktop app for scrobbling several months ago, but I hoped there would be improvement by now. Unfortunately, there isn't. I already emailed Spotify but the refer me to Lastfm because they say it's an app-specific problem. Could this please be put on the to-fix list?

In case you're wondering what these connected artists have to do with Spotify: they have exclusive deals with them publishing their back catalogue for streaming only on their site. If you know more exclusive artist deals with Spotify, please shout them here.

Google Play Music also announced today that they are available in Canada, see e.g. this article.

Besides Rdio and Deezer the free web player from Xbox Music also works for Canadians, so there is a choice of streaming sites in your country. But Spotify seems to need more time for that, that is unfortunately true. You could voice your opinion in their community forum and vote for related Ideas there as well.

Why...OH WHY, would you ostracize all of us Canadians by making the new switch to 'spotify' when it's not available in the 'Great White North' and who have decided Canada is not worth the effort to make itself available 'up here'...just [one more step] away from why I came to last 'originally'...I guess it's time to 'move' on (after 10 years)

I just checked with my Spotify desktop software which works, please see the sticky thread how to fill in your username and password correctly, i.e. don't type too fast. And when logging into the Last.fm for Spotify app, you have to allow access in your browser.
