Jon Hopkins – Cold Out There
Biografie
Jonathan Julian Hopkins is a British musician who writes and performs his own melodic electronica and dance music. He was born and brought up in London and started playing the piano when he was five. By the age of twelve he was studying piano at London’s Royal College of Music.
He has worked with Brian Eno, Imogen Heap, King Creosote, David Holmes, Tunng, Four Tet, and Coldplay, and remixed Wild Beasts, James Yorkston, Nosaj Thing, and most recently, David Lynch.
His debut album Opalescent was released in 2001, with a follow up record, Contact Note appearing in 2004. Both were released through Just Music. Hopkins’s third album, Insides, was released by Domino Records on 5 May 2009.
Hopkins was commissioned by multi-award-winning Wayne McGregor – renowned for his fierce, physically-testing choreography and ground-breaking collaborations – to compose music for Entity, the latest production for McGregor’s „Random Dance“ group. Entity was performed live at Sadler’s Wells in April 2008, and will later tour around Europe.
On 5 May 2009, the song „Light Through the Veins“ from Hopkins’ album Insides was released for free on iTunes as part of their Discovery Downloads. This song is also featured as the introduction to the first track „Life In Technicolor“ on Coldplay’s 2008 album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends as well as the backing for „The Escapist“ which is hidden at the end of the album. Hopkins worked as one of the co-producers for Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends contributing sounds and various keyboard instruments.
